Introducing two new “Ryton” PPS compounds for food contact applications
Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem, The Woodlands, Texas / USA; www.cpchem.com) has launched two additional "Ryton" polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) grades suitable for use in food contact applications. Both “R-4-232NA” and “R-4-222NA” meet the regulations of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as the European Commission’s Regulation 10/2011.
Whereas “Ryton R-4-232NA” is a 40% glass filled, high flow PSS grade, “Ryton R-4-222NA” is also 40% glass filled and specially formulated for enhanced mechanical strength for applications that are constantly exposed to hot water.
The company said both high performance compounds constitute an “excellent” alternative to metals and boast a high chemical resistance as well as dimensional stability in extreme temperatures. These characteristics make them particularly suitable for intricate parts and applications that need to withstand hot water, sterilisation and chemical disinfectants, including coffee maker brewing chambers, CPChem said.
