Significant gains for Advanced Engineered Materials business
The Advanced Engineered Materials business of US chemicals group Celanese (Dallas, Texas; www.celanese.com) reaped the benefit of rising demand in Europe and Asia. The unit – specialised in selling engineering thermoplastics and once known as Ticona – lifted its 2014 sales by 8% year-on-year to USD 1.46 bn (about EUR 1.1 bn). Higher volume sales (up 9%) were able to make up for lower sales prices (down 1%) and unfavourable exchange rates. Demand from the automotive, industrial and consumer goods markets was particularly good, Celanese reports. The unit’s operative income rose by 9.3% to a record high of USD 329m, meaning its margin increased by 2 base points to 22.5%.
