Introducing “Hostaform MT SlideX” tribologically modified POM for medical applications
Adding to its medical industry platform, Celanese (Dallas, Texas / USA; www.celanese.com) in late November last year introduced a new tribologically modified, medically compliant POM grade. “Hostaform MT SlideX” allows producers to manufacture medical devices with a low coefficient of friction and wear, low noise and also eliminates the need for external lubrication, the company said.
The grade is said to be a “competitive alternative” to other high-performance tribologically modified compounds, Celanese said, adding that its properties help lower costs thanks to reduced design constraints and simpler material combinations for complex devices. Andrew Brown, director of the group’s global medical industry business, said, “These new materials can improve design and processing capability and increase performance levels of key medical components.”
Key applications for Hostaform MT SlideX include COPD and asthma inhalers, injection devices such as insulin pens, surgical instruments and portable diagnostic medical devices.
