Brazilian petrochemical giant Braskem (São Paulo; www.braskem.com.br) in mid-June started up its new 103,000 t/y butadiene plant in Triunfo – about 50 days ahead of schedule (for more details, see Plasteurope.com of 14.05.2012). Production of specified material already began on June 12, the company announced at the end of last month.
Construction works on the EUR 120m plant, which will be officially inaugurated in July, took only 14 months, the company said. The new line complements Braskem’s existing BU plant in Triunfo, which has capacity for 106,000 t/y, Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net) shows. The Brazilian group also operates butadiene plants in Camacari and Capuava / Brazil.
The added output was scheduled to come on stream early next year but Braskem reportedly sped up the construction works to take advantage of high butadiene notations.
