One of the architects of Borouge 3 – Herbert Willerth – will retire at the end of this year. Willerth currently serves as deputy CEO and executive vice president Middle East & Asia at Austrian polyolefins giant Borealis (Vienna; www.borealisgroup.com), which, together with Abu Dhabi National Oil (Adnoc, Abu Dhabi / UAE; www.adnoc.ae), first set up Borouge – a massive petrochemicals hub in Abu Dhabi.
During his 15 years as a member of Borealis’ executive board, Willerth most recently oversaw the finalisation of the Borouge 3 expansion project (for most recent coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 11.11.2014). As CEO of PCD Polymere, Willerth was part of Borealis from the moment the company was founded in 1998. He became deputy CEO in 2008 and in 2010 was made responsible for Operations as well as the Middle East & Asia businesses. Last year he was appointed executive vice president Middle East & Asia.
The company said no successor will be named to its board at present, since Willerth will continue to serve as a senior advisor.
