After its establishment at the end of “K 2013” (see Plasteurope.com of 05.11.2013), the World Plastics Council (WPC) in November held its first general assembly in Dubai. At the meeting the WPC – which was established with a view towards fostering cooperation and aligning the international level – elected Mosaed Al Ohali, executive vice president of Polymers at Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com), as its new chairman.
Ohali replaces Patrick Thomas, CEO of Bayer MaterialScience (BMS, Leverkusen / Germany; www.bayerbms.com), who took on the role during the council’s formative phase. Ohali also serves as board chairman of the Saudi European Petrochemical Company and the Jubail United Petrochemical Company.
At the meeting, WPC – which represents the plastics industry in Asia, the Middle East, the Americas and Europe – set its initial priorities on marine debris and post-consumer solutions, including recycling and energy recovery.
