At its inaugural meeting, held on 28 January 2014, the founding members of European Plastics Converters’ (EuPC, Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticsconverters.eu) new sector group MedPharmPlast Europe appointed Thierry Eyrard as group chairman. The general manager of Fresenius Medical Care Smad (Savigny / France; www.fmc-smad.com) will hold the office for the next two years.
MedPharmPlast Europe was founded to meet the need for an EU-level sector group specialised in plastics for medical devices and packaging. Its main focus will be on issues such as legislation affected medical devices and packaging, as well as EU projects on relevant R&D. The group also will participate in the European Commission’s Medical Devices Expert Group and aims to coordinate industry actions at the EU level. Other goals include setting up an advocacy plan to defend the sector’s interests, holding discussion forums and collecting and disseminating market intelligence.
Upon his nomination, Thierry said that, “We are speaking now with one voice as an industry. We will work in the coming months to analyse problems and propose solutions, setting up a realistic roadmap to solve them.”
